Flower Pixies

Nature spirits are sometimes called flower fairies . There is a long association between the fey folk and plants. Fairy gardens and glens are a common feature of folklore: you only have to think of the phrase "fairies at the bottom of the garden".

Yet the true fairies of Celtic legend were more often human sized. They were blessed with powers similar to that of white witches - yet only used plants and herbs for their healing powers and for good deeds.

It is the tiny winged creatures that are often depicted in flower fairy paintings that people think of when the word 'fairy' is heard.

However,  the tiny winged creatures in the land of Annwn (welsh fairyland) are called 'Pixies'. These are male and female tiny beings that live amongst the flowers of gardens and woodlands.

Pixies have often been depicted together with various plants and flowers, with mushroom or toadstool circles a sure sign of possible pixie activity. The name "foxglove" is said to come from the phrase "folk's glove" after a belief that the wee folk used the flowers as gloves.

Flower Fairy or Flower Pixie - they are all magical beings of nature whatever we wish to call them!
